Food as Medicine (Group for Parents and/or Professionals working with families)
Research increasingly shows that food provides us with so much more than calories and nutrients. Yes, food fuels us — but it also heals.
Anastasia Galanopoulos, PhD, has extensively studied the benefits of diet to overall health. As an expert in child and human development with a special interest in the connection between brain health & gut health and food as medicine, Dr. Galanopoulos applies her deep knowledge of medical research to improve outcomes in the lives of her clients. This course draws from the latest research in medicine, nutrition, and brain science to address a range of topics relating to mental and physical health. It teaches nutritional and lifestyle changes to optimize gut health for improved mental health. These include:
Promoting fertility and healthy pregnancies
Reducing risk for cognitive decline, heart disease, and cancer
Addressing mental health, neurodevelopmental, and neurodegenerative disorders
Improving digestive health
We will discuss the Mediterranean, antiangiogenesis, and GAPS diets; prebiotics and probiotics; and spices and fermented foods as we explore the topic of food as medicine.
