The Lexington Chamber of Commerce is entering its 68th year as a not-for-profit organization, comprised of local businesses, professional and civic-minded people, dedicated to representing and protecting the interests of the business community. Membership to the Lexington Chamber of Commerce is by application and is available to all businesses, organizations, and corporations as well as other not-for-profit organizations. The Chamber of Commerce also manages tourism in Lexington and welcomes an estimated 100,000-plus visitors to the town each year and is responsible for a number of business and community events throughout the year.

Lexington's excellent location, ease of access, and highly educated workforce has encouraged the growth of a diversified commercial and employment base. From Middlesex County's largest corporate employer to in-home single employee start-ups, the two thousand businesses in town find this a place with incredible cultural and business resources and amenities to support and enhance their endeavors. Services important to new and growing businesses such as financing, training, business planning, job placement, and permit assistance are all to be found right in town.

Central to Boston's "128" corridor, Lexington's office parks along Hartwell Avenue, Hayden Avenue, Maguire Road and Cranberry Hill are home to a large number of high tech, financial, publishing and medical concerns. Vacancy rates for existing office space are currently low because many firms have discovered the benefits of easy urban access in a town that has not lost its rural feel. Open space is more likely to be set aside for conservation than for new office parks around Lexington's trails and ponds.

Lexington's retail and restaurant businesses are concentrated near the historic Green in the downtown area. Many non-retail businesses are mixed in this area as well. The retail area continues along Massachusetts Avenue as you head toward Boston. Small clusters of shops serving neighborhoods are dotted through the town as well.
